Multi-purpose A&B dimmable lighting - Dimmable lighting is controlled via knobs within a blue metal panel at the rear of Multi-purpose room B (345B). Use key #8 from the keybox located in the Student Activities Office.

Ballroom "On always lights" - The breaker switch for these lights is in the second breaker box in the hallway behind Husky Lounge from the Health Center. Breaker #15. The #48 key is in the Student Activities key box (see also Building Quirks).

Hanging and focusing theatrical and portable lighting

While hanging and focusing the theatrical and portable lighting always Wear gloves to avoid burns. If possible focus the instrument at 50% brightness to minimize heat exposure. Do not look directly into the lighting instrument.

  1. Using the Handy Herman personel lift (see also Other Equipment), take the fixture to your hanging batten (light bar) or truss. Using a wrench to turn the small bolt of the C clamp, open the C of the C-clamp enough that it the bar will fit inside the C. Place the C of the C-clamp over the bar. Once the C is over the bar, finger-tighten the small bolt until it closes onto the bar. Allow the lighting instrument to hang freely. Using a wrench, tighten the small bolt until it firmly grips the pipe.
  2. IMPORTANT! Open the safety cable's carabiner clip. Wind the safety cable through the yoke and over the the bar. Attach the clip back in place. Loosen the wing nuts on each side of the yoke until the yoke moves easily but with some bite. Pull the four shutter fans out from the barrel. These are four identical handles toward the mid section of the barrel--one on each side.
  3. Plug the light into a power source. When the instrument is lit, point the nose (front) toward the place you wish to light on the stage. Hold it in place with one hand while you tighten the yoke wing nuts.
  4. Twist the wing nut on front top of the body until it is slightly loose. Now grasp the barrel and slide it in and out to adjust the focus. You will notice that the beam's projection softens and widens or narrows and hardens as you move the barrel.
  5. Tighten the wing nut back up when you have the desired focus. You can now further shape the light by moving the shutter fans in, out, up and down as desired.

Portable Lighting

Lighting Trees - Portable

Description: Dimmable lighting, multiple colored gel, available with 1 lighting trees of 4 lights per tree. Technical personnel is REQUIRED for the use and operation of this unit. Lights must be focused to accommodate event setup prior to start of an event.

Setup Considerations: Never use the same power source/circuit as speakers, other lighting, or equipment that uses a significant amount of power to power these speakers. ALWAYS use a different power source/circuit than heavy power-draw equipment, otherwise the risk of tripping a breaker and stopping the entire event is eminent. Each lighting tree MUST use a different power source or circuit.

NSI MC N7024-D00 lighting controller, Picture

Description: 24/48 or 16/32 channel console, 2 manual presets, 24 memory scene 2 chases, NSI micro-plex with DMX. Technical personnel is REQUIRED for the use and operation of the Spotlight.

Setup Considerations: The KUB has two lighting controllers with accompanying wireless DMX transceivers. THESE CONTROLLERS ARE NOT IN KUB INVENTORY AND AUTOMATICALLY ACCOMPANY THEATRICAL LIGHTING OR PORTABLE LIGHTING. A 24/48 channel board is stored in the Ballroom projection booth for use in the Ballroom. A total of three connections for this unit should always be connected to the surge projector (2 connections) and DMX multi-pin connector (1 connection) of the lighting dimmer.

The second controller is a 16/32 channel board that is stored in the Tech Equipment Storage/office area. Both controllers are essentially the same except that one can control from 24 or 48 lighting channels and the other can control from 16 to 32 channels. There are two lighting controllers because we may need to run theatrical lighting in the Ballroom and run Portable lighting in a separate building location. Each controller will control BOTH the theatrical lighting (channels 1-12) AND the portable lighting (channels 13-16), either separately or in unison.
