Room 345 A&B Lectern Technology

Basic Information

All available technology is controlled via a touch panel mounted in the lectern. Controls include:

Lectern Technology

  1. Touch panels
    • System / Configuration
      • System On / Off
      • Room combining

      • Overall program volume (everything)
      • Lectern Mic volume and mute
      • Wireless mic #1 and #2 volume levels and mute
      • Wall panel mic input (#'s 1-6) volume level and mute

      • Video source selection: Computer, Blu-ray player, Auxiliary HDMI input, Auxiliary VGA input
      • 2nd/additional projector power on/off
      • Projection screen up/down/stop

  4. Blu-Ray player (will play DVDs)
  5. AV switcher – DON’T TOUCH!

    • Extra lapel mic clips

Room Technology

  1. Ceiling-mounted speakers
  2. Two wireless microphones in one of the following configurations:
    • 1 wireless handheld + 1 wireless lapel
    • 2 wireless handhelds
    • 2 wireless lapels
  3. Two ceiling-mounted projectors, each room.
    • Main projector depends on room configuration, and where lectern is plugged into the wall.
    • Front and side projectors only project and synchronize one source. Cannot display a different image on each projector.
  4. Two ceiling-mounted projection screens depending on room orientation.
  5. Program audio direct outputs (Female XLR, Mic level) for both Multi A and Multi B. Available at system rack in Multi A storage closet. Assistance required for access.
    • Rooms separated
      • Room 345 A direct output = Room 345A audio only.
      • Room 345 B direct output = Room 345B audio only.
    • Rooms combined
      • Room 345 A direct output = Both Rooms 345 A&B audio.
      • Room 345 B direct output = Both Rooms 345 A&B audio.

Lectern Storage & Connection

  1. Lecterns should remain plugged in (both power and data/control) unless they need to be moved onto a stage/riser.
  2. Lecterns require 2-5 minutes to fully boot up after plugging into power.
  3. Lecterns require connection of 5 cables to wall and to lectern in order to function.
    1. Computer network data connection (looks like a regular data/Ethernet cable)
    2. Data control for touch panel and other control equipment (looks like a mic cable but with an Ethernet cable connection)
    3. 1 mic cable for the podium mic (3 pin)
    4. 1 control cable for routing equipment (4 pin)
    5. 1 electrical cable to power equipment

Two spare umbilical cables are stored to the left of the system rack in Multi A storage closet. These are only to be used if the currently used umbilical cables become damaged.

Four black 50ft AC electrical cables are stored to the left of the system rack in Multi A storage closet.

Setup Considerations

  1. Powering Up
    1. Defaults to rooms separated configuration
    2. The main projector and screen is determined by the panel (front or side) to which the lectern is connected.
  2. Powering Down
    1. Shutting down system powers down (both/all) projectors, and raises (both/all) projection screens.
  3. Combining Rooms
    1. Room combine override requires a password.
    2. When rooms combined, only 1 lectern can be connected.
  4. Selecting Sources
    1. Projectors automatically power on when source is selected.
    2. Projection screens automatically descend when source is selected.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The presentation mouse becomes un-paired.
Possible Cause(s):

If batteries may fall out, the mouse may need to be re-paired to the receiver.

Best Solution (Permanent):

The receiver for the presentation mouse is mounted inside the lectern to prevent theft. In order to access the receiver, the rear lectern panel must be unlocked and removed. Afterwards the mouse and the receiver may be re-paired (See the manual).

Temporary / Immediate Solution
  1. Use a spare presentation mouse. Stored with laptops. Must be programmed for a PC (hint: It’s labeled PC).
    1. Connect to a USB connection in the front of the computer.
    2. If necessary, wait for software driver to load COMPLETELY. Do not unplug the device.
    3. If driver fails to load, use a different USB port and repeat driver loading.
  2. Use the regular WIRELESS MOUSE as a presentation mouse.
  3. Use the regular WIRELESS KEYBOARD to control PowerPoint or presentations.
Problem: The computer in the lectern can't connect to the internet.
Possible Cause(s):
  1. The computer's ethernet cable is unplugged.
  2. The computer's ethernet/network adapter is disabled.
  3. The lectern's ethernet cable(s) is not connected (this may also cause the touchpanel to fail to function correctly).
  4. The data port connecting all IP addressable technology in the lectern to the BU network may have automatically disabled. If the data port has somehow been reset, the port may have automatically disabled itself due to seeing over 5 MAC addresses on a single data port.
Best Solution (Permanent):
  1. Cause 1. Remove the lectern's rear panel. Connect or replace the computer's data cable.
  2. Cause 2. Re-enable the network adapter.
  3. Cause 3. Connect one or both of the lectern's ethernet cables.
  4. Cause 4. Contact the BU Networking Office or submit a BU Tech Support Services issue ticket. The port will have to be re-enabled and then programmed to permit additional MAC addresses.
Temporary / Immediate Solution
  1. Cause 1.

  4. Cause 4. Use a separate data port and cable to connect the lectern computer. Remove the lectern's rear panel, and connect the newly run cable to the computer. If possible run the cable in a way that permits the lectern's rear panel to be replaced.
Problem: The projected image OF THE COMPUTER is scrambled, fuzzy, or showing lines.
Possible Cause(s):

The computer's resolution has been changed.

Best Solution (Permanent):

Change the computer's screen resolution to 1280 x 720. 1280x720 is the highest common resolution between the 1600x900 (16:9) podium monitor and the 1280x800 (16:10) projector.

Temporary / Immediate Solution

None

Problem: The Touchscreen(s) show "Waiting for Sync".
Possible Cause(s):

Loss of power to the main AV rack in 345A storage.

Best Solution (Permanent):

Power cycle the Extron DTP Crosspoint 84 in the main equipment rack located in 345A stoarge. This may involve simply pulling the power cable from the DTP 84 ONLY - do not turn anything else off. Regular lectern operation may take up to 10 minutes to return to normal.

Use a Presentation cart or separate laptop and projector.
