HPLC, high performance liquid chromatorgaphy, uses a stationary phase and a liquid mobile phase to seperate analytes based on their attraction to the column. Various methods of LC can be used which use different stationary and mobile phases to separate the analytes. These methods include adsoprtion, partition, ion-exchange, and size exclusion. As each analyte is eluted from the column, a peak is produced with an area proportional to its concentration. The retention time of the analyte in the column can be compared with a known standard to identify which peak belongs to each analyte.
