TI-83 Calculator Programs

The table below contains a list and brief description of the TI-83 calculator programs presented in the Graphing Calculator Manual to accompany Just the Essentials of Elementary Statistics, Second Edition, by Johnson and Kuby.

Calculator Programs and Descriptions
Program Description
CENTRAL Computes the midrange and mode for a data set.
CHEBY Applies Chebyshev's theorem to a sample or population, summary statistics, or observations.
CIRCLE Displays a circle graph.
CROSSTAB Summarizes data in a cross-tabulation.
DISCRV Computes the mean, variance, and standard deviation for a discrete random variable.
DOTPLOT Displays a dotplot.
FREQDIST Constructs a frequency distribution for a data set.
GOODNESS Conducts a goodness-of-fit test to determine how well an observed set of frequencies fits an expected set of frequencies.
GROUPBAR Displays side-by-side bar graphs.
GROUPED Computes estimates of the mean, variance, and standard deviation for data presented in the form of a grouped frequency distribution.
PARETO Displays a Pareto diagram for numbers and types of defects.
POSITION Computes quartiles, percentiles, midquartile, and interquartile range for a data set.
RANDOM Constructs a simple random sample with or without replacement.
