Upon his arrival in the United States in August 2000, Dr. Ding quickly converted himself from a table tennis fan to a fan of various sports. For Dr. Ding, there are a couple of things that he feels most enjoyable—to watch NBA games, hang out with the best friends, follow American political elections, etc. In their leisure time, Dr. Ding and his wife Hongyan Yuan enjoy traveling and cooking.
