Time Series with Applications to Seismology. 1999.

Abstract: This book presents an approach to statistical modeling with particular emphasis on the significance of physical interpretation for the model parameters and utilization of the established deterministic formulations. It introduces a structural-based approach to statistical modeling and applies that to seismic records. It constructs models for earthquakes and underground nuclear explosions whose parameters have physical interpretation so that validation based on criteria other than statistical goodness of fit is possible.

Statistical Methods for Earthquake Hazard Assessment and Risk Analysis. 2000.

Abstract: Hazard assessment and risk analysis of natural disasters requires detailed analysis of the available information. The raw material of such investigations are the past data which are often incomplete and insufficient. Due to the nature of the problem statistical methods have been increasingly used in hazard assessment and risk analysis of disasters such as earthquakes, high speed winds, and floods. Although most of the classical theories have been utilized for this purpose, there are still many important areas which have not received enough attention. This book is devoted to description of some statistical theories and methods and discussion of their relevance to hazard assessment of natural disasters in general and earthquakes in particular. Except for introductory material, different chapters of the book are made independent from each other whenever possible. In doing so our goal was to make it easier for readers who seek to learn and apply a particular method. Also to facilitize this, theories utilized are described in detail in the corresponding chapters.

Mathematics, Statistics, and Sports. 2004.

Abstract: Students usually enjoy sports, understand their rules and the meaning of the various statistics presented to them. This can be used as a motivational theme for teaching mathematics and statistics with a hope that they would pay attention and participate in classroom activities. This book takes a step in this direction and attempts to explore some of the links between mathematics, statistics, and sports. It includes data analysis and modeling related to various facets and types of sports, and uses some common sports such as Basketball, Tennis, Volleyball, and Track & Field for demonstration.
