Arecibo Observatory

This is a view of the new Gregorian receiver from the main control building. Before radar observing can begin, the entire structure must be searched to ensure no one is working there while transmitting (a megawatt of power is pretty serious). A cable-car takes you up - a thrilling experience, especially at night. The entire dish is ~1000 ft in diameter and is essentially a metal grid lining that covers a bowl-shaped section of the terrain.

These are the accommodations for visiting scientists. It's very peaceful.

This is the walking path from the bungalow to the main control room and other site facilities.
