Interested in applying to professional schools in medical fields?

Our Pre-Med March Madness workshops sponsored by BU’s pre-professional committee are just what the doctor ordered:
Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in careers in various medically-related professions (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, chiropractic, optometry, dentistry, etc.) are strongly encouraged to attend the Pre-Med March Madness workshops to be held at ABLE in the Columbia Living Learning Community Room after spring break on the dates and times below:

Monday, March 14, at 5:00 p.m.:    The Application Process. The Pre-Professional Advisory Committee will guide you through the rigors of applying to professional schools, including AMCAS and AADSAS. Students will share their experiences with the admissions process.

Monday, March 21, at 5:00 p.m.:   Creating an Appropriate Resume. Sure you have a resume, but is it appropriate for your application?  Come to this workshop with a print-out of your resume for break-out sessions of peer and advisor review.  It is OK if the resume is kind of rough.  Sophomores are especially encouraged to attend.

Monday, March 28, at 5:00 p.m.:   Telling Your Story in the Personal Statement.  Writing about yourself is probably the most difficult part of the application.  For that reason, applicants tend to procrastinate in writing this important document.   Come to this workshop with a printed rough draft of your personal statement, or at least some ideas on paper for break-out sessions of peer and advisor review.  Juniors are especially encouraged to come.

Pre-Med March Madness is sponsored by the BU Pre-professional Advisory Committee. For more information contact: Committee Co-Chairs, Dr. Ardizzi and Dr. Surmacz (Biological and Allied Health Sciences), Dr. Bell (Chemistry and Biochemistry), Dr. Borland (Chemistry and Biochemistry), Dr. Morgan (Chemistry and Biochemistry), Dr. Henry (Biological and Allied Health Sciences), or Dr. Schwindinger (Biological and Allied Health Sciences.)
Best regards and Happy Spring Break!

Campus Visits

Two of my former research students, Brooke Shannon and Ashley Wagner, will be visiting Bloomsburg on Tuesday, March 1st. Both have said they are willing to talk with students about medical school and/or industry research positions. I have reserved 178 HSC from 11 am – 12:30 pm as an informal “Open Discussion” period. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

Brooke Shannon (’14, B.S. Chemistry – Biochemistry  Option) just completed her second year of medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) and will be conducting rotations at the Geisinger Medical Center.

Ashley Wagner (’15, B.S. Biology – Molecular Biology Option) is a Research Scientist I at the Avon Global R&D Facility in Suffern, NY.
Please stop by Tuesday to utilize these valuable BU alums that are willing to share their experiences and provide advice.
