Materials: We will use the Android Developer's Guide as our primary reference. It is free and online. There is no book to purchase for this course.

Overview: This team-based course provides an introduction to application development for mobile devices. We will focus on the Android platform—a software stack that includes an open-source operating system optimized for mobile devices, along with middleware, libraries, and APIs. The Android plugin for Eclipse gives us a powerful integrated environment that we will use for application development, which is done primarily in Java.

Outcomes: When you have completed the course, you will be able to:

• create and deploy Android applications using the Eclipse IDE.
• construct user interfaces with a variety of widgets and layouts.
• combine widgets and layouts to create custom components.
• externalize resources for different hardware configurations.
• observe best practices for user interface design.
• use Android SDK tools for testing and debugging.
• publish your applications on Android Market.
