Preliminary Hearing:
A preliminary hearing is held at the District Magistrate's office.
It is the stage of prosecution where the Commonwealth presents enough information to establish that a crime has been committed; and that the person charged is responsible for that crime.
This means that you will have to face the accused who will be represented by a defense attorney, and that you will be a testifying witness for the state.
The District Magistrate decides if there is enough evidence for the accused to be bound over for trial.
Campus Judicial System:
Enforces campus rules and regulations known as the Student Code of Conduct.
If another student has victimized you and you do not wish to press criminal charges, you may file a complaint with the Director of Student Standards.
It is a means of obtaining some justice or restitution without going through the legal system.
